BENEFITS OF MASSAGE THERAPY

Experts estimate that upwards of ninety percent of disease is stress-related. And perhaps nothing ages us faster, internally and externally, than high stress. Massage is an effective tool for managing this stress, which translates into:

  • Decreased anxiety.
  • Enhanced sleep quality.
  • Greater energy.
  • Improved concentration.
  • Increased circulation.
  • Reduced fatigue.

Massage can also help specifically address a number of health issues. Bodywork can:

  • Alleviate low-back pain and improve range of motion.
  • Assist with shorter, easier labor for expectant mothers and shorten maternity hospital stays.
  • Ease medication dependence.
  • Enhance immunity by stimulating lymph flow—the body's natural defense system.
  • Exercise and stretch weak, tight, or atrophied muscles.
  • Help athletes of any level prepare for, and recover from, strenuous workouts.
  • Improve the condition of the body's largest organ—the skin.
  • Increase joint flexibility.
  • Lessen depression and anxiety.
  • Promote tissue regeneration, reducing scar tissue and stretch marks.
  • Pump oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs, improving circulation.
  • Reduce post-surgery adhesions and swelling.
  • Reduce spasms and cramping.
  • Relax and soften injured, tired, and overused muscles.
  • Release endorphins—amino acids that work as the body's natural painkiller.
  • Relieve migraine pain.

Neuromuscular Massage is a form of specific soft tissue manipulation that focuses on relieving various forms of pain through treating the source. Pain has various components in the body and is unique in how it presents itself. Trigger point activity in the muscle may cause a variety of effects: headaches, pain, numbness, tingling, dizziness, and blurred visions—all of which may easily be overlooked and diagnosed as some other medical condition. Neuromuscular therapy aids in identifying the cause of pain and treating the source, rather than the symptoms which are mostly referred discomfort. It often uses attachment and positional release, which works with nerves on a minute level in the body. By turning off the nerve signals, greater depth can be achieved for a longer time, without causing pain. Neuromuscular Massage is great for problems caused by improper posture and auto injuries.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage is a hands -on technique that uses a gentle, rhythmic style of massage that mimics the action of the lymphatic system using precise pressure and movement. This relaxing technique stimulates recirculation of body fluids, increases immune system function, and balances the autonomic nervous system. Lymphatic Drainage Massage treatments can result in:

  • Relief of chronic pain
  • Reduction of edemas (swelling)
  • Detoxification of the body
  • Stimulation of immune system function
  • Relief from spasm and hypertonic muscles
  • Deep relaxation , relief from insomnia and stress
  • Regeneration of tissue (e.g. burns, surgery, scar tissue)and anti- aging effects
  • Relief of chronic inflammation and conditions such as acne, eczema and allergies
  • Reduction in the symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia

Oncology Massage is an approach to massage therapy based in compassion and specialized massage to help people manage their experience with cancer. Oncology massage therapists are trained to adjust massage sessions in regard to the client’s condition, type and duration of cancer treatment and their side effects. The style of massage for clients going through treatment for cancer is non-circulatory, relaxation massage. The treatments for cancer are extremely taxing on the body and can cause many complex side effects. Deep tissue and other massage modalities that increase circulation are not appropriate at this time. Massage from a trained therapist during cancer treatment can improve quality of life during a time of extreme physical and emotional duress. Benefits of massage include relaxation, improved sleep and relief of anxiety, pain, fatigue and nausea.

It is important to discuss receiving massage therpy with your doctor and to provide a note of consent for your massage therapist.
